The Catholic Association of Performing Arts (CaAPA) (formerly the Catholic Stage Guild) works for, and alongside, people of all faiths and none. The Association performs a dual role, serving the needs of its members and, through them, the wider community.
CaAPA’s members are, typically, theatre professionals or non-professionals with some interest in the performing arts. Members apply their talents and skills to helping the wider community, for example putting on theatre productions to help people in their spiritual journeys and to raise funds for good causes.
About Us
Our Mission & Vision
CaAPA’s mission is to serve the needs of its members by providing a community in which they can apply their talents and skills in all areas encompassing the performing arts.
CaAPA’s vision is to reach out to the wider community through a variety of events and projects produced by CaAPA members for charitable purposes.
The Sir Alec Guinness Award
The Students’ Evening is held annually at the CAA (Club for Acts and Actors). A panel comprising a director, producer, casting agent, actor, representative from Equity and Spotlight hold a question and answer session for the benefit of final year students from accredited drama schools. They discuss and give advice on a variety of topics, including getting an agent, leaving drama school, keeping well informed, preparing for an audition, etc.
All information is sent to accredited Drama Schools. Final year students (only) are invited to demonstrate in a written application why they consider they are worthy of the Sir Alec Guinness Award, which will also be presented during the evening.

Join Us
At CaAPA we welcome everyone who is interested in the performing arts and/or interested in using their talents, skills knowledge and experience to help others. For example, to stage our theatrical events we need not just directors, designers, actors and stage managers but also promoters, administrators, caterers, welcomers, etc.
Whilst membership is largely concerned with helping others, however, you can be sure to derive much pleasure and practical benefit from being part of CaAPA. Annual membership costs no more than £20. Significant concessions apply to full-time students, who pay just £5 p.a.
What are the benefits of joining CaAPA?
- CaAPA productions, readings, and other events, offer opportunities for career development by enabling you to work to the highest professional standards as part of a positive and friendly team.
- Theatre trips and other social events encourage members to mix socially, bringing like-minded people together and providing networking opportunities for members.
- CaAPA offers chaplaincy and mentoring facilities to assist members in exploring both spiritual and practical aspects of their professional lives. Members are actively encouraged to share their experience as mentors.
- All CaAPA members are also registered as affiliated members of the Club for Acts and Actors (CAA). The CAA premises, located just a few minutes from Corpus Christi Church, in London’s Covent Garden, comprise a small theatre and exclusive licensed bar and dining facilities. Members and guests are allowed to use the bar facilities between the hours of 12.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. after which time all guests MUST be signed in by a member of the CAA.
